Assignment 3
Disability in the community

This is a photo of my community plant house. I noticed that the stairs don't have any ramps to accommodate people that might be in a wheelchair and this is a very popular place where people from all over the world come to look at the different plants and also have events there such as weddings. Because of this, I think that they should put in a ramp for PWDs so they can feel welcomed.

This is my first photo of the curb/sidewalk that is about 2 inches high and has no way for someone with a wheelchair to get down off the curb. This is a problem because in case of emergency the person wouldn't be able to get down and would have to go all the way to the end of the corner in order to accommodate themselves which could be really inconvenient for PWDs.

This is a photo of stairs going to a tattoo place in the basement. I picked this photo because these stairs are not appropriate for PWDs because there is no ramp for someone to get down smoothly without hurting themselves. Also, if someone isn't able to get out of their wheelchair and walk down the stairs then they won't be allowed to come over. I find this a problem because the house is not disabled-appropriate and it should have some type of barrier for PWDs in case there are customers that might want to come to the shop but can't get down the stairs, which is also bad for business.

This is a photo of the basement stairs of my cousin's restaurant. I picked this photo because I noticed that there is no way for someone who probably can't walk to get up and down the stairs. For one, there are too many stairs and the railing is not stable. This puts many people in danger if they try to use the rail because it can break at any time. However, if you think about an employee that might work at the restaurant and has a disability, they wouldn't be able to accommodate themselves if they weren't able to walk.
